06-JUL-2019: Mental Health Camp at RHTC, Jawan
Aligarh, July 6: To mark the Doctor's Day, the Department of Community Medicine and Department of Psychiatry of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) jointly organised a free Mental Health Camp at Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC) in Jawan.
The camp with its professional counselors connected children with behavioral problems, old aged people suffering memory loss, Alzheimer patients and people suffering acute depression.
Prof Anees Ahmad (Chairman, Department of Community Medicine) said that society remains largely unaware of psychological and psychiatric problems and treats patients with these problems with lesser or no compassion.
He added that since Government is taking initiatives to deal with such problems, it is high time that medical professionals face these challenges.
Inaugurating the camp, Prof Suhail Ahmad Azmi (Chairman, Department of Psychiatry) pointed out that a macro survey of peoples' mental health status should be done regularly.
Dr Uzma Eram said that she had noticed in her felid visits that even people who are aware of their mental health problems avoid meeting doctors.
Prof Suhail Azmi, Dr Mehboob, Dr Faisal Shaan, Dr Zaini and Dr Ahsan consulted the patients attending the camp.
