15-JUL-2019: AMU gets Two Synthetic Tennis & Basketball Courts
Aligarh, July 15: With a view to catering to growing demands for advanced infrastructure, equipment and scientific support, AMU is working with missionary zeal in creating the infrastructure and promoting capacity building for sports as well as for achieving excellence in national competitive events for its students. From its inception as MAO; the university has been nursery of outstanding sportsmen and players along with academic excellence, said the Vice Chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor while speaking at the inaugural function of Synthetic Tennis Court and Synthetic Basket Ball Court .The Vice chancellor played few strokes.
The Chief Guest, an alumnus of AMU, Mr Alok Sharma presently Additional Director General of Police, in his emotionally charged speech; attributed his professional growth and success to his Alma Mater AMU. Appreciating the sports infrastructural growth in the campus, he said "standing on the sports ground takes me down the memory lane, where I learnt how to overpower failure and build resilience to be a successful leader."
He said AMU posses a strong alumni network and he wants to be part of it to pay back to the university in any role. He added that he has no words to express how elevated he feels when he reads news about AMU?s growth.
The Registrar Mr Abdul Hamid, IPS shared that construction of one synthetic tennis court and one basketball court was made possible by a grant from AMU Vice Chancellor. The second tennis court was made possible by the contributions from Alumni and former Tennis Captains and Players. These courts are a first welcome addition to the Chattari pavilion in a span of 100 years. University has a plan to provide the best infrastructure and resources to its students and the completion of these projects are yet another step in this direction.
Prof S Amjad Ali Rizvi (Secretary University Games Committee) delivered the welcome address and appreciated the efforts of AMU administration for their logistic support.
Captain of Basket Ball Team Mirza Aquib Beg also expressed his views and Dr Jameel Ahmad (President Gymkhana Club) paid vote of thanks.
Ms Madihay Noman (Student BA Final) conducted the program.
Wife of the Chief Guest Mr Sharma, Mrs Seema Sharma (President UP Basketball Association), PVC Prof MH Beg, Proctor Prof Afifullah Khan , Presidents of Different Clubs, former secretaries of Games Committee , former Presidents of different Clubs , former players of Tennis and Basket Ball club , and coaches of various Clubs were also present along with other dignitaries and students.
