16-JUL-2019: Symposium on National Education Policy 2019 held at AMU
Aligarh, July 16: Department of Education, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organized a symposium on "National Education Policy 2019 with special reference to teacher education".
Guest of Honor Prof SK Singh (Ex-Vice Chancellor, HNBG University, Garhwal), in his address highlighted the importance of teacher education for the development of the nation and said that "We lack teachers having depth in knowledge and breadth in pedagogy".
Guest of Honor Prof Zakia Siddiqui (Ex-Principal, Women's College, AMU), shared her views on the role of various committees and commissions appointed in India after independence in guiding the education system and expressed her concern in the delay and lack of implementation of recommendations. She suggested remedial measures to overcome drawbacks in the existing recruitment procedure of teachers and emphasized that practice teaching in B.Ed course should be modernized and given more importance in the new education policy.
In her welcome address during inaugural session Prof Nasrin (Chairman, Department of Education), gave an overview for holding symposium on national education policy 2019.
In his Presidential address Prof Waseem Ahmed ( Director, Academic Programme Committee, AMU), stressed the importance of teaching profession and contended that success of any policy lies not only in the formation of policy, but by its implementation.
The inaugural session was followed by the technical session I with a theme "Technology in teacher preparation and continuous professional development in NEP 2019". The session was chaired by Prof Waseem Ahmad and Co-chaired by Dr. Swasti (Ex-Faculty of International Studies, AMU)
Technical Session II was on theme, "Approaches to quality teacher education in NEP 2019". The session was chaired by Prof Faratullah Khan (Professor Emeritus, Department of English, AMU) and Co- chaired by Prof Sheeba Hamid (Department of Commerce, AMU).The guest speaker was Dr Faiza Abbasi (Deputy Director, UGC HRDC, AMU)
The Guests were felicitated by offering mementos and session concluded by vote of thanks from Chairperson Prof Nasrin
