26-JUL-2019: AMU Faculty delivers lecture on 'Health Economics' in Malaysia
Aligarh, July 26: Dr Saira Mehnaz, Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) delivered a plenary lecture on 'Health Economics' at the 5th International Conference on Public Health 2019 (ICOPH 2019) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
She said that with the inadequate public health system, 70 million Indians are being pushed into medical poverty trap every year. Public health financing is pivotal to provide financial entitlement in terms of purchase of services.
She pointed out that the public health expenditure in India has remained constant at approximately 1.3 percent of the GDP between 2008 and 2015, and increased marginally to 1.4 percent in 2016-17.
Dr Saira was also a part of the Scientific and Evaluation Committee at the Conference and she was one of the four plenary invitees from India, USA and Malaysia.
More than 200 participants from 30 different countries participated in the Conference.
