08-AUG-2019: Dept of Modern Indian language organizes seminar
Aligarh, August 8: The Kashmiri Section of the Department of Modern Indian Languages, Aligarh Muslim University organized a two day national seminar in collaboration with Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR) on 'Kashmir Language and Literature'.
The Chief Guest Prof Tariq Mansoor (Vice Chancellor) praised poets for saying laconically in a couplet where one takes hours for expression at the same time. To understand language one needs to know its history and Kashmiri language has a rich history, he added. In the globalised world, it is of paramount importance to preserve one's mother tongue, Prof Mansoor said.
He appreciated the department's role in national integration as students from various language, region and religion are engaged through seminars and symposiums.
In his key note address Prof Sanaullah Parwaz (former Professor, Dept of Philosophy) said that after the languages of Dravidian family, Kashmiri is regarded as the oldest language in comparison to other languages of the Indian subcontinent.
The guest of honour Prof Roop Krishan Bhutt (Former Director, Urdu Research Institute, CISFL) said number of books and articles have been written on the Kashmir?s multilingual, multicultural and multi-religious aspects. Kashmir is a place of more than 15 languages, he added.
The guest of honor Prof Syeda Nuzhat Zeba said, language and culture are interrelated because the language regions possess certain homogeneity of culture and are characterized by common traits in history, folklore and literature, she added.
In his Presidential address Prof Kranti Pal (Chairperson, Dept of MIL), appreciated Vice Chancellor, for providing logistic and infrastructural development support to the Department.
Prof Mushtaq A Zargar (Director of the Seminar) introduced the topic of the seminar.
The VC, Prof Mansoor, released a book 'Sant Sahitya Mimangsa' based on Sant literature edited by Dr Taher H Pathan (Coordinator of the Seminar) and Dr N B Kadam. The Coordinator Dr Aamina Khatun conducted the program and paid vote of thanks.
