23-AUG-2019: US scientist visits AMU, delivers talk
Aligarh, August 23: Renowned scientist in the field of cancer biology, cancer genomics and proteomics; Dr Mohammad Saleem Bhat (Masonic Cancer Center, University Minnesota, USA) delivered a talk on 'Changes in Genetic Landscape of Tumour during Prostate Cancer Progression from Indolent to Metastatic Stage' at the Department of Zoology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in which he delineated genetic landscape changes, as the disease progresses from localized to metastatic stage.
Dr Bhat's visit was conducted under the collaboration with the Cancer Genetics and Translational Research Laboratory, Department Zoology.
He threw light on how therapy failure is caused and metastasis-associated mortality management of both pancreatic and prostate cancer.
Dr Bhat explained the differences in genetic landscape of tumours during disease progression and need to develop effective therapies.
Praising recent developments of the Department of Zoology, Dr Bhat spoke on the efforts of faculty members and the University administration in bringing ample research grants from various funding agencies. He also spoke on publications of Department researchers in reputed journals such as Nature (impact factor-43), Coordination Chemistry Reviews (impact factor-15) and Clinical Cancer Research (10.2) among others.
Dr Bhat, an Associate Professor with the University of Minnesota has more than 60 publications and 5,500 citations to his credit.
Prof Wasim Ahmed (Chairman, Department of Zoology) delivered the welcome address, while Prof Mohammad Afzal proposed the vote of thanks.
