31-AUG-2019: ISA Aligarh Branch launched at JNMC Auditorium
Aligarh, August 31: The Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA) launched its Aligarh City Branch (ACB) during a special function held at the Auditorium of the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Prof Syed Moied Ahmed, Chairman, Department of Anaesthesiology and Prof Qazi Ehsan Ali were declared the first President and Secretary of ISA respectively.
On the occasion, ISA ACB President, Prof Syed Moied Ahmed remarked that the services and expertise of anaesthesiologists are required from the time a new life is brought into this world to the time vital organs are transplanted to the terminally ill to give them a new lease of life.
"We will do our best to take the newly launched ISA Aligarh City Branch to the next level. I am fortunate to have a wonderful, young and enthusiastic team. I am sure of their wholehearted support in all the endeavours," said Prof Moied.
He also delivered the welcome address in which he gave brief profile of the visiting ISA officials.
Prof Qazi Ehsan Ali, Secretary ISA ACB said that it is an honour to have this position in ISA ACB. "I thank all officials for reposing faith in my ability and I am sure that the ISA team in Aligarh will do a remarkable job to raise the bar higher and higher with each passing year," he added.
Speaking on ISA history, Dr S S Chakra Rao, Chairman, Indian Resuscitation Council (IRC) pointed out that since its inception in 1947, ISA has come a long way.
"The First ISA Independent Annual National Conference was held at Hyderabad in 1965. The Silver Jubilee and Golden Jubilee years were commemorated at Trivandrum (1972) and Delhi (1997)," he said adding that ISA joined World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA) as a founder member in 1956.
Dr Naveen Malhotra, Secretary ISA UP Chapter felicitated Prof Syed Moied Ahmed with the President Medal and ISA Excellence Award. He also felicitated Prof Qazi Ehsan Ali.
Dr Malhotra pointed out that ISA has 30, 000 members and it is expected to reach a membership of 50, 000 in a year.
He also spoke on the modules developed for fitness of ISA members as part of the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi's initiative of 'Fit India Movement'.
Dr Malhotra later delivered a lecture on 'Chronic Pain Management, an Over View'.
Dr Bharat Bhushan (Secretary, ISA UP Chapter), Brig Dr T Prabhakar (Former President, ISA) and Dr Rakesh Garg (AIIMS, New Delhi) were the special guests.
The Department of Anaesthesiology also began a three-day 'Indian Resuscitation Council (IRC) Certified Basic Cardiopulmonary Life Support (BCLS) Provider Course and Training of Trainers Workshop', which will conclude on September 1.
