03-SEP-2019: Drama Club organises 'Theatre Origins'
Aligarh, September 3: The Drama Club of the Cultural Education Centre (CEC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organised a three-day cultural event, 'Theatre Origins' in which student groups staged high acclaimed classic dramas and a skit.
On the first day, Mohan Rakesh's 'Aadhe Adhure', was performed by Khurram Zuberi Theatre Studio at the CEC with Nidhi Singh, Rishi Kumar, Zehra Naqvi, Faisal Nezami and Himani Tainguria playing the main roles. Directed by Syed Jafar Hasnain, the play attempts to dramatize the life of a middle-class family caught in the web of financial setbacks in a brilliant show filled with profound emotions and witty dialogues. Nadeem Khan, Puru Yasharth, Kaunain Rizvi, Adnan Khurram and Faiza Sahar were in the production team.
Anton Chekhov's 'The Bear' and Saadat Hasan Manto's 'Burqe' were performed by Drama Club members on the second day.
Directed by Shahbaz Naqvi, 'The Bear', a one-act comedy play had Adnan Khurram, Farwah Rizvi and Shiraz Mallick in the lead roles depicting story of a middle-aged landowner calling on a young widow to collect the debt, her late husband should have paid before he died.
Manto's 'Burqe' was performed as a monologue by Arbaz Khan. Directed by Syed Jafar Hasnain, the play showed the tale of a young man's love for a Burqa-clad woman, which changes his life forever.
'Theatre Origins' ended with a skit, 'Babaji ki Booty' performed at the UGC-HRD Centre. Written by Danish Khan; the skit had Furqan, Moumita, Faiza, Jeevanshi, Zaid, Amir and Navneet as directors.
