16-SEP-2019: Lecture on 'Importance of Water Saving' held at Women's College
Aligarh, September 16: With water crisis rampant in many parts of the country due to lack of adequate rainfall, depletion of groundwater and scorching heat, Prof Sangeeta Singhal, Department of Physiology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) suggested that there is a need to concentrate on raising awareness, while conserving water and harvesting rainwater.
Delivering the lecture on 'Importance of Water Saving' as the Chief Speaker at the Women's College, she urged the AMU community to unite water conservation.
Prof Sangeeta highlighted the harrowing conditions of water scarcity with facts and figures.
Throwing light on major causes of water scarcity, she suggested remedies to prevent the crisis.
Expressing concern on the depleting quantity of water, Prof Sangeeta pointed that even quality of water is being affected.
"There is a lack of sufficient available freshwater resources to meet water demand," she emphasised.
Prof Sangeeta also answered queries of students on the causes of water crisis such as deforestation and over-pumping of groundwater in an interactive session after the lecture.
Dr Shadab Bano, Coordinator of the programme urged students to join the ongoing water saving activities in the Women's College and the University.
While Prof Naima Khatoon, Principal, Women's College chaired the session; Prof Nazia Hasan, Convener of the programme spoke on how water conservation is a critical part of the strategy for managing water resources.
