17-SEP-2019: Cleanliness drives in AMU
Aligarh, September 17: Various faculties, departments, schools and offices of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) are carrying out massive cleanliness drives under the Swachh Bharat Campaign to keep the campus spic and span.
In one such drive, chairpersons of various departments of studies under the Faculty of Science with their teachers and students undertook a cleanliness drive with an objective of disseminating the message of Swachh Bharat widely.
The Faculty of Science also organised a tree-plantation campaign along with the cleanliness drive, said Prof Qazi Mazhar Ali, Dean, Faculty of Science adding that sensitization and awareness programmes to educate people on harmful effects of littering public places were also carried out.
Prof Ali urged students and staff to say no to plastics.
In the Swatchta Pakhwada observations at the Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit (IBU), Prof Asad U Khan, Coordinator, IBU laid emphasis on plastic-waste-management and water conservation.
IBU also organised a poster competition on 'Plastic Management and Water Conservation' for the MSc students. Teachers, students and non-teaching staff of the Unit planted tree saplings on the occasion. Prof M Owais extended the vote of thanks to the staff and students for participating with enthusiasm.
The Interdisciplinary Department of Remote Sensing and GIS Applications organised a cleanliness drive, a quiz competition and an essay competition to sensitise people on the importance of Swatchta Pakhwada.
"We cannot relinquish our responsibility to keep offices and surroundings clean," said Prof Shadab Khurshid, Chairman, Interdisciplinary Department of Remote Sensing and GIS Applications.
The Abdullah School observed the Swatchta Pakhwada campaign with awareness programmes and a poster-making competition. Ms Umra Zaheer, Superintendent of the school delivered a speech on the importance of cleanliness in the morning assembly.
Teachers, wardens and caretakers at the Ahmadi School for Visually Challenged organised programmes to aware students on water conservation and avoiding plastic use.
