23-SEP-2019: Prof Asad Ullah Khan delivers lecture on 'Genetic Engineering' as AMU ABK High School-Boys concludes 'Science Awareness Week'
Aligarh, September 23: The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) ABK High School-Boys concluded its 'Science Awareness Week' with a lecture on Genetic Engineering by Prof Asad Ullah Khan, Coordinator, Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit in which he apprised students on transgenic varieties in plants and animals.
Prof Khan briefed students on advantageous outcomes of genetic modifications such as increased food production, reliability and yields.
He explained the need of plant breeding innovations to effectively address challenges associated with climate change and a growing population.
Attending the function as the Chief Guest, Prof Asfar Ali Khan, Director, Directorate of Schools Education (DSE) discussed important elements specific to creating a scientific bent of mind with the students.
Dr Anwar Shahzad, Assistant Director, DSE urged students to develop problem-solving and thinking skills.
Dr M Abbas Niazi, Principal, ABK High School-Boys delivered the welcome address; while Vice Principal, Mr Parvez Habib Qureshi proposed the vote of thanks.
Class VIII student, Raghav bagged the first prize in the poster-making competition held during the Science Week. Murtaza Kamal (Class VIII), Mayank Kumar (Class VI), and Nehal Saleem (Class VI) received the second, third and consolation prizes respectively. The Yellow House team of the school won the quiz contest, in which Green and Blue Houses shared the runner-up positions.
