25-SEP-2019: AMU faculty presents German Chancellor her portrait at Berlin public event
Aligarh, September 25: Dr Asma Kazmi, Assistant Professor, Department of Fine Arts, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) made an oil painting of the Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel in muted primary hues, which she presented to her at a public event in Berlin, Germany.
The portrait depicts the popular European leader looking directly at the viewer with intense blue eyes piercing through large surfaces of discrete paint lines.
Dr Asma presented the painting to the German Chancellor, while she was in Berlin to present a paper on 'Relationship between Art and Society' at the 'Education and Social Sciences', International Academic Conference organised by the European Academic Institute for Science Research.
In the paper presentation, she discussed how art influences society by changing opinions, instilling values and translating experiences across space and time.
She pointed out that art allows people from different cultures and different times to communicate with each other via images, sounds and stories.
"Art is often a vehicle for social change as it helped people to use their imaginations for reshaping and building on their ideas," added Dr Asma.
