26-SEP-2019: Poshan Maah-2019 Celebrated in AMU
Aligarh, September 26: Under the Rashtriya Poshan Maah (Government of India's overreaching schemes for holistic nourishment), the department of Community Medicine and Paediatrics organized an awareness drive and free health camp for screening of under nourished children in Urban slum areas of Bhamola and Firdaus Nagar, Aligarh. Around 100 of patient consisting of mostly children were examined and given free treatment.
All the children's were advised deworming and medicines were distributed. Out of total children attended by the doctors it was shocking to find out that 100 percent were under the malnourished category and some had overt features of malnutrition.
Mothers of the children below age of 6 yr were counselled and explained the benefits and importance of proper nutrition in this age.
Prof Farzana K Beg (Chairperson Dept of Paediatrics) along with team of doctors visited
the slum area (backward in education, economy and behaviour attitude) and briefed locality members about the causes of malnutrition and the necessary behaviour practices for proper nutrition of children and counselled the mothers about benefits of breastfeeding, \complimentary feeding and practices of good health.
Professor Anees Ahmad (Chairperson, Department of Community Medicine) along with
Medical Officers took a survey of the area and discovered vulnerable groups for the Poshan Abhiyan. He said that the purpose of celebrating Poshan Maah is to spread the message of
nutrition to every family in country and to focus on complimentary food, prevention and
treatment of infections in children.
Dr Subuhi Afzal, Medical Officer UHTC examined the pregnant females and female of reproductive age group. Large number of doctors and other staff members of the departments of Community Medicine and Paediatrics took part in the camp and gave their services.
