27-SEP-2019: Induction programme held
ALIGARH September 27: Induction programme, 'Deeksharambh', for newly admitted students was held in different departments of studies of the Aligarh Muslim University. The programme was organized to get the newly admitted students acquainted with the age old traditions and values of the University and instil in them a sense of belonging to this historical institution.
As part of the programme, Department of Zoology began the six-day event with an opening address by Prof Shakeel Samdani, Dean, Faculty of Law.
While speaking on 'Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and Aligarh Movement', Prof Samdani said that Sir Syed was not only an educationist but a historian, architect, jurist and a great visionary who inspired the Muslims of India to turn attention towards getting modern education. He urged the students to emulate Sir Syed's great works for the betterment of the country and abstain from involving in any activity detrimental to their future prospects as it would also bring a bad name to the university.
Prof Imtiaz Hasnain, Prof Shafey Kidwai, Prof Mohd Naved, Prof Shamsul Haque Siddiqui, Prof Mohammad Afzal, Prof Sadaf Zaidi, Dr GGHA Shadab and Mr Saad Hameed also addressed students during the week-long induction programme.
Prof Wasim Ahmad, Chairman of the department said that AMU is known for its rich traditions and quality education and students should focus on their studies and make an enviable career working for the development of the country.
Meanwhile, in the Department of Botany, newly admitted students of postgraduate and PhD programmes attended the week-long Deeksharambh programme.
While highlighting the significance of the programme, speakers urged the students to get adapted to the new environment and make best use of the facilities provided by the university. They also stressed the need for adopting an interdisciplinary approach in studies and research.
Prof Qayyum Husain, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences also addressed the participants while Prof Nafees Ahmad Khan, Chairperson of the department thanked senior teachers for playing active role in holding the programme.
The Department of Law, AMU Malappuram Centre, Kerala also inaugurated the induction programme for first year students of Law. Dr Faisal KP (Director, AMU Malappuram Centre) inaugurated the induction programme and encouraged students to inculcate necessary professional skills along with the value based education.
Mr Ghalib Nashter (Co-coordinator, Department of Law) and Dr Mohammed Basheer K (Co-coordinator, Department of Education) urged the students to focus on achieving their aim of life and discipline themselves with strict time management and hardwork.
Dr Shahnawaz Ahmed Malik and Ms Neelam Faizan (Teachers-in-charge, Student Induction Programme), along with Mr Raziur Raheem (Assistant Proctor), Dr Najmudheen T (Assistant DSW), Mr Mohammad Abu Shahid (Provost, Halls of Residence) and Mr Mohd Ahazam Khan (Assistant Registrar) also addressed the students informing them about rules and regulations pertaining to the students? conduct.
Mr Mohd Shakeel Ahmad (Department of Law) proposed the vote of thanks.
