30-SEP-2019: Deeksharambh programmes continue to be held at AMU
ALIGARH September 30: The Department of Linguistics and the Department of Statistics and Operations Research, Aligarh Muslim University organized the induction programmes, Deeksharambh, to get the newly admitted students of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes acquainted with the academic and residential environment of the University and make them awakened to the great educational and reformist vision of the founder, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan.
Addressing the students at the opening ceremony of a week-long induction programme held by the Department of Linguistics, Prof S Imtiaz Hasnain, Chairman of the department, shed light on the importance of studying linguistics as a subject and highlighted the future prospects in this area.
Speaking on the relevance of holding induction meeting, Mr Masood Ali Beg shed light on various branches of Linguistics as an interdisciplinary subject and underlined its significance with special reference to speech therapies, artificial intelligence, forensics and teaching of language.
Prof Latif Husain Kazmi, Chairman, Department of Philosophy emphasized the importance of ethics and moral values in life and urged students to imbibe great ideals of honesty, humility, obedience, compassion and courage.
Dr Farah Ashar, Chief Medical Officer, University Health Service and member, Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) spoke on gender sensitivity and highlighted various provisions of Indian constitution safeguarding the rights of Indian citizens.
Mr Saad Hameed, Training and Placement Officer (General) urged the students to focus on personality development and inter-personal communication skills.
Prof Mohd Jahangeer Warsi introduced students to the historical character of the University and mentioned various facilities available in the department that can be utilized in studies and research.
At the Department of Statistics and Operations Research, Prof Qazi Mazhar Ali, Dean, Faculty of Science spoke on the traditions and cultural values of the University and urged them to always keep their goal in mind.
Prof Athar Ali Khan, Chairman of the department presented an introduction of the department and highlighted the various career prospects in this field. He urged the students to focus on their studies and make best use of facilities available in the University.
Prof Aquil Ahmed delineated the structure of the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Statistics while Dr Fatima Siddiqui introduced faculty members to the newly admitted students.
