30-SEP-2019: Extension Lecture at Dept of Physiology
Aligarh, September 30: Dr Akanksha Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Physiology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi delivered the University Extension Lecture on 'Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring (IONM)' at the Department of Physiology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University in which she delineated the use of various electrophysiological methods to monitor the functional integrity of neural structures during surgery.
Dr Akanksha, who is also an alumna of the Department of Physiology, JNMC spoke about the modalities of IONM currently in use and its implication in providing a successful surgical outcome.
Sharing her experience of working at AIIMS, she said that her team caters to more than 500 cases a year and has conducted national and international IONM training workshops besides providing IONM support in live surgical workshops.
Speaking on the theme of the lecture, Prof Sangeeta Singhal, Chairperson, Department of Physiology emphasised that the purpose of IONM is to reduce the risk of damage to the nervous system, and to provide functional guidance to the surgeon and anaesthesiologist.
Dr Anwar Siddiqui conducted the program, which was attended by physicians and surgeons from various disciplines.
