01-OCT-2019: 'Sir Syed Day Open District Sports Week' concludes
Aligarh, October 1: The 'Sir Syed Day Open District Sports Week' organised by the Women's College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) concluded with the Women's College teams winning the Basket Ball and Volley Ball tournaments.
Teams from the Senior Secondary School-Girls and Al Barkaat won the Badminton doubles and singles titles respectively, while AMU Girls High School triumphed the Table Tennis event.
Attending the concluding ceremony as the Chief Guest, AMU Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Akhtar Haseeb emphasised that participation is more important than winning in sports.
He said, "It does not matter that you win or lose, all that matters is the courage to participate."
Prof Haseeb pointed out, "Regular participation and hard work brings the best result."
"Sir Syed Ahmad Khan was a great votary of women's right to education and AMU has been promoting the cause of female education since its inception. A 1500 bedded Azizun Nisa Begum Hall for girl students which was recently inaugurated is the biggest hostel facility in the University," said the Pro Vice Chancellor.
Prof Naima Gulrez, Principal, Women's College delivered the welcome address; Prof Iffat Asghar, Deputy Proctor and Dr Jameel Ahmad, President, Gymkhana Club, Aligarh distributed prizes to the winners.
Vanshika Keshwani and Afnan conducted the programme.
