01-OCT-2019: AMU distributes Cloth Bags
Aligarh, October 1: Aligarh Muslim University distributed cloth bags, to reduce use of pollution causing, single use plastic. Pro Vice Chancellor of AMU Prof. Akhtar Haseeb released cloth bags prepared by University's National Service Scheme (NSS) unit on the eve of 150th birth anniversary of Father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi on Tuesday.
These cloth bags will be distributed free of cost among the general populace to shun the single use of plastic. The step has been taken after the appeal of Prime Minister to discard single use of plastic as it is major source of pollution. AMU has also undertaken a drive since September in its campus to collect and dispose plastic waste.
NSS Coordinator Prof M Masroor Alam informed that awareness drive among masses will be taken for this noble cause. For this NSS volunteers are door to door campaign for Swachch Bharat and Nutrition Month among the people. University's Health Officer Dr Ali Jafar Abedi informed that campus has taken measures to dispose plastic waste keeping in view of its harmful effect.
During the function, Mr Mohsin Zafar Khan and several NSS volunteers were also present.
