05-OCT-2019: Tree plantation, water conservation, cleanliness campaigns in AMU
Aligarh, October 5: Students of the Department of Physical Education, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) launched a new campaign, 'Nature's Pot' in line with the 'One Student One Tree' initiative in which each student across the nation will plant a tree in the campus.
Mr T L Singh, District Forest Officer, Aligarh; Prof Akbar Husain, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and Prof Zaki Anwar Siddiqui, Member-Incharge, Department of Lands and Gardens joined the students in planting tree saplings on the occasion.
"The Department of Physical Education is observing Swachhta Pakhwada, Swachhata Hi Seva, Swach Bharat Mission, Jan Shakti Andolan and Plastic Free India campaigns for a green and healthy environment," said Prof Zamirullah Khan, Chairman, Department of Physical Education.
Meanwhile, the Department of Tahaffuzi Wa Samaji Tib, A K Tibbiya College, AMU organised an essay writing competition on 'Role of Youth to make India Polythene free' as a part of the nation-wide 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign.
Prof S M Safdar Ashraf, Chairman, Department of Tahaffuzi Wa Samaji Tib also administered a pledge with students, teaching and non-teaching staff to avoid use of plastic and to keep the country neat and clean.
The AMU Girls School observed a water conservation campaign under the nation-wide, 'Jal Shakti Abhyan' programme in which a team of school teachers and students visited the Lal Diggi pond and suggested measures for water conservation. Essay writing, chart making and slogan writing competitions were organised to raise awareness on rain water harvesting and other water saving methods.
Students also performed skits as part of the awareness campaign, said Ms Amna Malik, Principal, AMU Girls School.
AMU ABK High School-Girls organised a Swachchta Pakhwada programme with a special assembly session, in which students delivered speeches and recited poems and songs to raise awareness on the importance of cleanliness.
"Students also prepared posters and conducted a cleanliness drive with teachers and non-teaching staff," said Dr Saba Hasan,Vice Principal of the school.
