12-OCT-2019: Innovation Council awards released for the year 2019
ALIGARH October 12: Professor Mujeebur Rahman Khan, Department of Plant Protection, Aligarh Muslim University has been awarded with the "Outstanding Researcher of the Year Award" by the AMU Innovative Council and the Incubation Centre, while Dr Riaz Ahmad, Associate Professor, Department of Zoology has been selected for the "Young Researcher of the Year Award" for the year 2019.
The awards carrying a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000 and Rs 50,000, respectively, will be conferred on the recipients during the Sir Syed Day commemorative function on October 17, 2019, by the chief guest, noted American entrepreneur and philanthropist, Dr Frank F Islam. These awards were given under the category of Faculties including Science, Life Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Engineering and Technology and Medicine (Modern and Unani Medicine).
Prof Mujeebur Rahman Khan and Dr Riaz Ahmad have been selected for these awards by a jury for the quality of their publications and its impact factor, citation, h-index, place in authors' list, invited talks in reputed conferences, social impact of their research work and the significance of their academic work, said Professor Imtiaz Hasnain, Chairman and Professor Mohammad Sajjad Athar, Coordinator of the Innovation Council while announcing the awards.
In order to encourage research and academic excellence among students, the Innovation Council has also instituted the Students' Research and innovation Award and five students have been selected for this award through a Student Research and Innovation Convention.
Mr Uzair Aalam (Masters, Interdisciplinary Nanotechnology Centre) has been awarded the first prize for his presentation on "Real Time Analysis of Chemical Kinetics" while second prize is shared by Mr Mohammad Noorduddin Ansari (PhD, Department of Museology) and Mr Abdul Hannan Mustajab (BSc, Mathematics) for their respective presentation on "Study on the materials and methods used for the conservation of paper documents in India" and "Smart environment monitoring system". Third prize has also been shared by Mr. Kaikubad Ali (PhD, Department of Geography) and Mr Suhail Ahmed (BA, Department of Psychology) for making presentation on "Geo-spatial approach for smart urban planning: A case of Aligarh city" and "Post traumatic stress disorder", respectively. Mr Shahe Alam (BUMS) has been given consolation prize for his work themed "Save water, serve water".
Prof Mujeebur Rahman Khan's research interest covers a vast field of Molecular characterization of efficient isolates of biocontrol agents and development of their biopesticides for the management of fungal/nematode diseases and insect pests of agricultural crops. He has 336 research works to his credit including books, research papers, abstracts and review articles published in reputed national and international journals with two patents to his name and chaired or co-chaired 9 conferences while presenting papers at 140 national and international conferences and seminars.
Dr Riaz Ahmad works in the field of Disease Biology, Hepatology, Proteomics and Alternative Medicine, has 52 research papers to his credit and has presented papers at more than 50 national and internal conferences and seminars. He has been honoured with several awards including Shakuntala Amir Chand Prize '2015 (ICMR, New Delhi), BOYSCAST Fellowship '2010-11 (Department of Science and Technology, Government of India), Young Scientist Award '2008-09 (CST, Lucknow) and Scientist of the Year Award '2009 (National Environmental Science Academy, New Delhi).
