12-OCT-2019: Dept of Education starts Conference on 'Multi-Disciplinary Research'
Aligarh, October 12: A two-day International Conference on 'Multi-Disciplinary Research' shedding light on how research increasingly relies on large collaborative, multi-disciplinary, and interdisciplinary approaches and works across borders is organised by the Department of Education, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Presiding over the inaugural function at the University Polytechnic Auditorium, AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor stressed the importance of learning research methodology.
"The study of research methodology and statistical analysis provides with the necessary training in choosing methods, materials, scientific tools and training in techniques relevant for a problem chosen," he said.
Delivering the keynote address on 'Pathways to Multi-Disciplinary Research', Prof V K Goswami, former Vice Chancellor, Sangam and Sunrise University said, "In an era of increasing academic engagement that includes several disciplines under one subject, it is imperative to understand the nuances of multidisciplinary research. Many Nobel prize winners are from multidisciplinary research fields."
He emphasised that multidisciplinary research is an essential driver for innovation. "Through simple collaboration, researchers from different disciplines can accomplish more by teaming. Multidisciplinary research moves beyond simple collaboration and teaming to integrate data, methodologies, perspectives, and concepts from multiple disciplines in order to advance fundamental understanding or to solve real world problems," he said.
Prof Goswami also spoke about how Sir Syed's teachings have inspired him.
"Sir Syed was one of the most charismatic and far-sighted Indians of all time, who realised the need to educate Indians as he rightly felt that empowerment can only come with knowledge, awareness, character and social identity," said Prof Goswami.
Dr Mujibul Hasan Siddiqui read the message of Ms Lestyani Yuniarsih, Representative, Education Attache, Embassy of Indonesia, New Delhi. Ms Lestyani congratulated AMU and the Department of Education for conducting the international Conference.
Dr Nasreen, Chairperson, Department of Education delivered the welcome address, while Prof Akbar Husain, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences proposed the vote of thanks.
