19-OCT-2019: Global Hand Washing Day observed
ALIGARH October 19: Personal hygiene and cleanliness have always been a matter of concern for people who are health conscious and put a premium on community health. To address this issue, the Global Hand Washing Day is celebrated every year to educate people about the significance of personal cleanliness. As part of the worldwide celebration of the day, the department of Community Medicine, J N Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University organized an awareness programme at its Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC), Jawan aimed at contributing to the sustainable development goal 6.
Later, Dr Ambika Saraswat, JR-1, delivered a talk on cleanliness at the Pre-secondary School, Jawan urging the students and teachers to adopt simple habits of cleanliness which would help reduce diarrheal and acute respiratory diseases. A large number of class VII and VIII students, along with the teachers attended the talk.
Interns Ritu Singh, Riya, Sameer, Raunak Rishu, Sana Afsar and Sakshi also engaged the students in hygiene related activities and educated them through demonstration about the importance of hand washing and how to prevent spread of diseases.
Prof Anees Ahmad, Chairperson, Department of Community Medicine, Dr Uzma Eram (Incharge, RHTC) and Dr Tabassum Nawab (Assistant Professor) highlighted the importance of the global hand washing day and the current theme of the day "Clean Hands for All".
