Dept of Orthopaedic Surgery organises '6th UP Orthopaedic Association Trauma Course-2019'
Aligarh, October 20: The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, J N Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in association with the Aligarh Orthopaedic Club today organised '6th UP Orthopaedic Association Trauma Course-2019' on the theme, 'Hip and Knee Injury: Achieving Excellence' in which didactic lectures, case-based discussions and skills training, highlighting latest technologies and trends in orthopaedic trauma took place.
Attending the inaugural function as the Chief Guest, AMU Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof Akhtar Haseeb said that this course is designed to provide the orthopaedic surgeons with comprehensive updates on evolving concepts and techniques in orthopaedic trauma.
He added that course will give new insights to participants in the lower limb trauma through deliberations by renowned orthopaedicians from different parts of the country.
"These programmes should be held on regular basis to update doctors for evaluating and applying new concepts for treatment," said Prof Haseeb.
Dr Jamal Ashraf, President, UP Orthopaedic Association delineated 'Management of Sub-Trochanteric Fractures.'
He explained how intramedullary nails are emerging as the treatment of choice for subtrochanteric femur fractures and the surgical treatment techniques such as external fixation, open reduction with plates and screws and intramedullary fixation.
Dr Ashraf urged young orthopaedicians to make time for families and their well being and to live a balanced life with their work schedules.
In the welcome address, Prof Naiyer Asif, Organising Chairman of the programme said that this course is an excellent opportunity to review the advances and new concepts in the treatment of hip and knee injuries, which are major causes of disability following trauma.
Prof S C Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Medicine; Prof Aftab Ahmad Iraqi, former Chairman, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, JNMC; Dr Apoorva Agarwal, President Elect, UP Orthopaedic Association; Dr Pradeep Varshney and Dr Abdul Qayyum Khan also attended the inaugural function.
Dr Latif Zafar Jilani, Organising Secretary of the programme proposed the vote of thanks; while Dr Ziaul Hoda Shaan conducted the programme.
