23-NOV-2019: All User Awareness Programme on EDS held at MA Library
Aligarh, November 23: The students, research scholars and faculty members of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) can now carry out their research through EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS), a single search box to explore the Maulana Azad Library and electronic resources for an easy access to books, journals, and more on the library homepage.
They received hands-on-training today by Mr Lakhpal Singh Naruka, Training Manager, EBSCO Information Services in the 'Single Window Search for All'-All User Awareness Programme on EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) at the Cultural Hall of Maulana Azad (MA) Library, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Speaking as the resource person, Mr Lakhpal said, "Today's university students have sophisticated expectations and expect academic library websites to follow suit."
"EDS as the new articles and databases search engine brings together the entire subject databases to create a seamless and simplified research experience," emphasised Mr Lakhpal.
He explained how EDS implements an agile methodology geared toward quickly and efficiently releasing enhanced functionality with the overarching goal being to maximize user experience.
Inaugurating the programme, AMU Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof Akhtar Haseeb remarked that AMU is progressing with rising academic standards every passing year.
He urged students to learn to learn efficiently how EBSCO compiles data, determines priorities and uses a roadmap approach to systematic and cohesive improvements from content and performance to usability and administration.
Prof A R Kidwai, Director, UGC HRD Centre pointed out, "We live in an era in which the universities are ranked with their knowledge creation and production ability."
He added that there is a need to constantly update facilities for knowledge creation.
Welcoming the guests, Dr Mohammad Yusuf, acting Librarian, MA Library said that EDS will take research to the next level through a perfect combination of content and technology, taking into accounts all of the elements in the research process.
Prof Naushad Ali PM, Department of Library and Information Science also spoke on the occasion.
Dr Aslam Mehdi conducted the programme, while Ms Asma Khan extended the vote of thanks.
