03-JAN-2020: JNMC hosts AAEP lecture on Advanced Cardiac Life Support
Aligarh, January 3: "Proper utilization of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) requires rapid and accurate assessment of the individual's condition and this not only applies to the provider's initial assessment of an individual in distress, but also to the reassessment throughout the course of treatment with ACLS," emphasised Dr Anup Katyal, a renowned critical care physician and sleep consultant at Mercy Hospital, St. Louis, USA.
Dr Katyal, who is also a Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) alumnus and a member of the Aligarh Medical Alumni Association of North America (AMAANA) was delivering the Alig's Academic Enrichment Programme (AAEP) lecture on 'Latest ACLS' organised in association with AMAANA at JNMC.
He spoke on the set of clinical algorithms for the urgent treatment of cardiac arrest, stroke, myocardial infarction, and other life-threatening cardiovascular emergencies.
Dr Katyal explained how ACLS protocols have been developed through research, patient case studies, clinical studies, and opinions of experts in the field.
He delineated advancements in ACLS and important steps to be taken in emergency situations, airway and breathing.
Dr Katyal discussed drug administration routes such as Intramuscular and Intraosseous.
He chalked out the chief parameters related to ACLS protocols and stressed the need of distinct ACLS guidelines in line with the American Heart Association.
Prof Shahid Ali Siddiqui, Principal, JNMC delivered the welcome address, while Prof Qazi Ehsan Ali, Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care chaired the session.
Prof Syed Ziaur Rahman, Coordinator, AAEP and Dr Sadia Chaghtai, Secretary, AMAANA also expressed the views on the latest developments in ACLS.
