23-MAY-2020: Online workshop held on quality research and scholarly publications
ALIGARH May 23: The faculty of Social Sciences, Aligarh Muslim University, in collaboration with Elsevier organized a one-day Online Workshop on "Quality Research and Scholarly Publications by using SCOPUS and Mendeley" for AMU research scholars.
In his inaugural address, AMU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor, emphasised the use of E-resources and research tools for enhancing the research skills to improve research quality and produce high standard research publications.
He said, "Research scholars should learn how to make judicious use of this crisis time and the ways to boost their research productivity. This type of online workshop will be helpful to enlighten the scholars".
Welcoming the guests, Prof Akbar Husain, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences emphasised the need for quality-based research in academic institutions. He said that quality assessment of research is essential as it helps gauge the importance of decision making on project funding, teamwork and ranking of institutions.
Prof Naushad Ali PM, Coordinator of the workshop, said "we are passing through a tough time due to the Pandemic, however, researchers can transform this challenge into an opportunity to meet research needs with the help of ICT based research tools, methods and resources. We have to sustain research connectivity while maintaining social distancing".
Three technical sessions were held during the workshop. Mr Vishal Gupta (Customer Consultant-South Asia, Elsevier) spoke about various Elsevier products like Scopus, Science Direct and Mendeley for improving quality of research and publications.
Ms Neha Srivastava (Account Manager-South Asia, Elsevier Programme) supervised the interactive session and a live demo of Scopus and hands-on training of Mendeley was held.
Dr Shantanu Ganguly (Fellow, Knowledge Management Division and Project Coordinator, E-learning Programme of TERI, New Delhi) spoke on integrity in scientific research.
Prof Naushad Ali PM proposed a vote of thanks. Dr Parvez Mahmood Khan, Director, Prof M N Farooqui Computer Centre, AMU was the Technical Coordinator.
