02-JUL-2020: Malappuram Centre organises 'Youth Parliament'
Aligarh, July 2: In its centenary, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) paid tribute to alumnus, legal luminary and a tireless institutional builder, Professor N R Madhava Menon with a virtual 'Youth Parliament' competition on 'Deliberation on Covid Crisis with Special Emphasis on Existing Issues, Prospective Solutions and Impact on Post Covid Era' organised by its Malappuram Centre.
"Sir Menon, a notable AMU alumnus, gave the idea of five years integrated BA LLB course and laid foundation of NLU in Bangalore. For those of us who knew him and were aware of how he traversed the road of life, he enriched the lives of many who will have a bank of memories of his leadership, achievements, and example that will live forever and will not be lost in the mists of time," said the Chief Guest, Prof M Shakeel Ahmed Samdani in his inaugural address.
Speaking on the importance of youth parliament, Prof Samdani added that the program will provide the students with a unique opportunity to understand the current events, topics in political relations, bills and agendas of the government.
Dr Faisal K P, Director, Malappuram Centre delivered a welcome speech and Kulsum Hasan, Secretary, MUN Club gave a short welcome note.
The inaugural session was moderated by Dr Shahnawaz A. Malik, Convener, Law Society, Malappuram Centre, while Mr Ghalib Nashter, President, Law Society, extended the vote of thanks.
Akram Khan and Ariba Abbas were the speaker and the deputy speaker respectively.
Meanwhile, Prof M Shakeel Ahmed Samdani, Dean, Faculty of Law also delivered an online extension lecture on 'Right to Life and Personal Liberty: An Overview' organised by the Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi in which he discussed Constitution as the most sacred document of the Country.
He emphasised the importance of Article 21 and praised the efforts of the Supreme Court for widening the ambit and scope of this article.
Citing important cases, Prof Samdani explained how the rights to education, livelihood, food, water, health and medical care, speedy trial, free legal aid, fair trial, bail, protection and improvement of environment are all covered under the right to life and personal liberty.
