Aligarh, October 11: The department of English, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organized a Web Talk on October 10, 2020 under 'Interaction with Illustrious Alumni' series as part of the University's Centenary Celebrations. An alumnus of the Department Dr SM Akramul Kabir, a Ph. D. from University of Canterbury, New Zealand, currently working with the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, Bangladesh delivered a talk on 'Teaching and Research in ELT: Current Issues'.
Dr Kabir spoke at length on the need and status of English Language education in the global context and emphasized on the different aspects of teaching and research in English Language Teaching. He also focused on decolonizing the Teaching of English as Second Language contexts in countries like India and Bangladesh.
Prof Seemin Hasan, former chairperson, in her presidential remarks congratulated Dr Kabir on his academic accomplishment and appreciated him for sparing time for his alma mater.
Prof M Rizwan Khan, Chairperson, Department of English in his welcome note apprised Dr. Kabir about significant changes in the syllabi, teaching and research activities of the Department.
The programme was attended by a large number of research scholars, MA students and faculty members. The question answer session was made interactive and informative by Prof Shagufta Imtiaz, Prof Raashid Nehal, Dr Darakshan Zafar and the students. Prof M. Asim Siddiqui, Prof Nikhat Taj, Prof Samina Khan also attended the programme.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Md Sajidul Islam, who also coordinated and moderated the programme.
