Prof. M. Sashidharan Nair Artist in Residency Prof. M. Sashidharan Nair from Baroda was the artist in residencyAt Moinuddin Ahmad Art Gallery between 12-16 February 2014 who conducted workshop and interactive sessions for the students during the residency.
I wish to
create things that are tangible in my own hands and simplify the process by
involving minimum labour. This is how Prof.
Shashidharan explains his art.
Born in Velamanoor, Kollam district, Sashidharan,
completed his post-graduation in mural painting from the faculty of Fine Arts,
M.S. University, Baroda, where he specialised in Italian and Indian fresco
traditions. Sashidharan has been a faculty member of the Department of
Painting, at his alma mater since 1992. He has travelled extensively in Europe,
and has specialised in Kiln-formed glass process from Edinburgh in the United
Kingdom, making him one of the few professional artists in India to have been
trained in this stained glass- making process.
As a painter and mural artist, Sasidharan
articulates metaphors from oral tradition and contemporary literature. But his
metaphors emerge as distant references of images or sometimes as titles, which
provide a possibility for an alternate reading.
