Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, AMU has a distinction of having one of the best medical libraries of India, popularly known as Faculty of Medicine Library. The Library came into existence in the year 1962 with the establishment of the college for 50 MBBS students. Since then the library has been a major source of reference not only for the students of Faculty of Medicine but also for the students of other faculties at campus. Initially the library had a collection of few thousands books and periodicals with a few staff members but later the library continued to make progress with the increasing number of the students from time to time.In 1985 total intake for MBBS students was increased from 50 to 100 with the approval of the MCI and thus the library became an eminent center of learning and study. In 1996 the number of MBBS students further enhanced from 100 to 150. Various PG courses were initiated along with the establishment of Sir Ziuddin Dental College with intake of 40 students. Keeping in view the increasing number of students, the need of the expansion of the present building was realized by the administration and subsequently on May 27, 1996, the foundation stone of a new building with three floors was laid down which became functional in the year 2000.It is a premier knowledge hub promoting the University"s vision as a leading global medical school in Asia.
In addition to the students of J.N. Medical College,Dental College and staff, the Library is also used by hospital doctors, health-services personnel, Hospital's officers and other health care providers of the college.

The Faculty Library consists of 14000 square feet covered area, providing 350 seats
for students of J.N. Medical College,Dental College,School of Nursing and Institute of Ophthalmology besides two separate AC rooms exclusively for teachers and Senior Resident's study.The library caters to the information needs of approximately 2000 users of Faculty of Medicine besides the students of other faculties e.g. Faculty of Science & Life Science, Faculty of Unani Medicine and Center for Bio-Technology etc etc.

MAJOR OBJECTIVES OF THE LIBRARY:
The four strategic pillars of the Faculty Library are Staff, Service, Collection and Operational Excellence. In tandem, they work towards creating an environment of excellence.
LIBRARY CATALOGUE:The catologue of the faculty library is classified according to the Dewey Decimal Classification with some modifications suited to Indian conditions. A divided cataloged (Author and Title) is maintained and the cards are prepared manually along with all details . However catalog for the thesis have been computerized using the excel sheet giving bibliographical details.Efforts are on to make the library fully automated adopting better software like LibSys.
Membership of the library:
The library is primarily for the benefit of the faculty members, research scholars, students, and the staff of the J.N Medical College. However the privilege of borrowing books is restricted to the faculty members only.On special request faculty & research scholars of other faculties are also admitted for a shorter period with the written permission of the Principal & CMS forwarded from their concerned organizations.Broader guidelines for library use are as follows:

The Medical Library has a tenure-track library faculty like Hony. Library Officer (Prof.Veena Maheshwari), Asstt. Library Officer (Dr. Amir Usmani), Librarian Mr. Aslam Mehdi.
Besides them five non-tenure track Library & Information Professionals, and 10 supporting library staff. They are available for consultation on a wide range of knowledge & issues pertaining to the health information .
