Aligarh Muslim University, popularly known as AMU, is
one of the oldest Central Universities of the Country.
It is renowned for not only its excellent teaching and
research but also for its unique traditions. For the
uplift of the educationally and economically backward
society, a school was started by one of the greatest
visionaries and great social reformer, Sir Syed Ahmad
Khan. It became the famous Mohammedan Anglo Oriental
(MAO) College in 1877. Finally, the MAO College was
upgraded to AMU in 1920. It is the largest residential
University in the Country. It is the only University in
India where teaching is imparted from classes Nursery to
Postgraduate. It offers more than 280 courses at
Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. It has very
active M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes in a large number of
disciplines |
