Today information is
stored increasingly in electronic formats, as the very
concept of the form and substance of the book is
changing, it is time to re-examine the principles of
preservation under which we were trained and under which
we are still guided in decision making. These principles
need to be compared to recent technological advances in
the formation and storing of texts so that points of
convergence or divergence can be evaluated. Preservation
activities (storage, packaging, cleaning, etc.) will
have a significant affect on the problems faced by
library professionals. The preservation of library
materials today has become a specialization within
librarianship.
The
seminar focuses on the importance of knowledge
conservation and preservation in the digital
environment, to extend motivation towards conservation
of knowledge and to stimulate training programmes. The
purpose being to sensitize the need and importance of
preservation of knowledge for future to learn the
techniques and issues related to these artifacts
