Abdullah Nursery and Primary School

A mother’s lap is the first school of a child. However the Nursery & infant schools play a very important role in laying  strong foundation of a quality education.  Concerned primarily with the formal education, these schools are influential indetermining the interest, habit, character and all round personality of a student. The old Girls Association of Aligarh Muslim University Women’s college showed its appreciation for early child hood development by establishing this Nursery School with the donations received on the auspicious occasion of the 80th birthday of Dr.Sheikh Abdullah Saheb who was not only the founder of Women’s College at Aligarh but also a pioneer  in the field of Women’s Education.

Rightfully so, the school has been named as Abdullah Nursery & Primary School in his honour.  It is housed in Abdullah Lodge, Marris Road, Aligarh & occupies half the portion of the building with a play ground infront.

Excited and impressed by the successful completion of the first year (July 1957 to July 1958) the Aligarh Muslim University took over the management of the school with effect from August 1958.  Although still in its infancy the school has carved a niche for itself among the top Nursery/Primary school in Aligarh.  It has also earned  the praise of both parents and administrators alike who have expressed satisfaction and appreciation for the care and guidance offered to the students by its able staff members.

The continued  success of the Nursery school prompted  the University authorities to decide in favour of starting the primary classes(upto class V)from the session 1959-60.

This helps the students to stay longer in the school and benefit from the able leadership and rich experiences of the teachers.  The age limit for admission to class Nursery has been fixed at 3 plus years.

Realizing the importance of preparing the students for the 21st century, teachers use the modern methods of education like play way method, model presentations, graphical and  diagrammatic  descriptions etc.  The school is especially equipped to meet the adequate needs of young students, since they are the future of our nation.  The provisions of proper education is not only an investment for the future, but it also helps to develop the intellectual and moral character f a child.   The school is heaven for free self-expression and unfettered play through which children discover their varied interest and capabilities.  All children are given due importance and treated equally irrespective of their caste, creed, colour, sex, religion and social status etc.

Since the teachers are considered to be the builders of a nation , it is the foremost aim of the school to train children to be productive members of their communities.  The rich heritage of social norms, customs and traditions of A.M.U. are passed on to the young students without robbing them of their child hood.
