Ahmadi School for the Blind
HISTORY:
Ahmadi School for the Blind was founded by
late Sahebzada Aftab Ahmad Khan Saheb along with a group of
philanthropists in the year 1927. The founders provided the institution
with extensive lands and suitable building for the school and the
boarding house, then valued at Rs. 50,000/-. The School was inaugurated
by the then Governor of U.P., Sir William Marris, and a grant was
sanctioned for the School by the then Government of U.P. In 1947, the
University started giving financial assistance to the school and finally
took over its management in 1949. At the instance of the then
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Zakir Husain, the University decided to reorganize
the school on modern scientific lines, with effect from the session
1955-56.
Present Position:
The school is now being maintained as one of the four Secondary schools
of the Aligarh Muslim University. Apart from the usual academic subjects
prescribed for other secondary schools of the university, Ahmadi School
for the Blind also provides for certain especial courses such as
computer typing, instrumental and vocal music, handloom weaving and
chair re-canning.

INFRASTRUCTURE:
• Teaching Block- The school has teaching block consisting of class
rooms, library and science lab.
• Hostel- The school has a separate hostel for boys and girls.
• Administrative Block- There is an administrative block consisting of
office, assembly hall, staff room, music room etc.
• Handloom and Chair re-canning section- There is a handloom weaving
training section and also chairs re-canning section.
• Computer Lab: A well established computer lab, with screen reading
software, low vision devices, Braille embosser and electronic as well as
manual Braille type writers, is there in the lab.
OTHER FACILITY:
The school provides free boarding, lodging, Braille books, Braille
equipments and tuition. There is also provision for various
scholarships.
